On Monday afternoon, 07 November 2011, at about 17h00, Wessel van Zyl astonishingly located a GROUNDSCRAPER THRUSH in an open field area adjacent to Recreation Street just to the south of the town of Bredasdorp (co-ordinates of the site are at 34 deg 32’ 34”S and 20 deg 02’ 43”E). He fortunately managed to photograph it and, via a series of email communications, it eventually reached my inbox 4th hand this afternoon.
This is an incredible record for the province and certainly constitutes the first record ever for the Western Cape with the closest known records being at least 600km to the north of this. Unfortunately, there has not been any subsequent news of the bird, but this is surely going to spark a lot of interest from provincial listers and, with a number of people looking in the area, it will hopefully be relocated again.

Good luck if you are planning on chasing it and keep us updated! Should I hear any further news on this bird, I will certainly post an update here immediately.
Kind regards
Trevor
